If you have oily and acne-prone skin type, it's crucial to avoid facials that use steam, massage, dermabrasion and scrubs. These techniques can overstimulate your sebaceous glands, leading to increased sebum production and disrupting your skin's acid mantle, which can worsen your skin issues.

FAQ
Why is steaming not recommended for acne prone skin?
Steaming is often not recommended for acne-prone skin as it can worsen the condition. The heat from steam can stimulate the sebaceous glands, leading to increased oil production. Additionally, it may cause inflammation and redness in existing acne and potentially spread bacteria, further aggravating breakout-prone areas.
What is the difference between the traditional Salicylic acid peels and Clarify Peel?
Salicylic acid based peels focus only on exfoliating, unclogging pores, and reducing acne through skin peeling and drying. In contrast, the Clarify Peel, enriched with Salicylic acid, Niacinamide, Zinc, and brightening acids, aims for overall skin enhancement, tackling oiliness, blemishes, texture, and redness.
Will the Clarify Peel help in reducing my oily skin?
Certainly, the Clarify Peel is adept at managing oily skin. Its blend of Salicylic acid and Zinc effectively regulates sebum production, ensuring a controlled oil balance and imparting a matte complexion to the skin.
Is my alcohol based toner good for my oily skin?
Alcohol-based toners are not ideal for oily skin because they can overly strip the skin of its natural oils. While they may provide an immediate matte effect, this can lead to a rebound overproduction of sebum, causing the skin to become even oilier over time. Additionally, they can disrupt the skin's natural barrier, leading to increased sensitivity and potential irritation.
What other treatments can help treat acne breakouts?
Utilising high-frequency treatments and LED therapy with a blue light setting can be highly beneficial, given their pronounced antibacterial properties. This directly counters acne-causing bacteria. Additionally, peels like the TCA 50% and Salicylic acid 30% are potent solutions for targeting deep seated and more severe acne cases.
Is using a facial scrub beneficial for my acne prone skin?
Abrasive scrubs compromise the skin's protective acid mantle and pH balance, making it more vulnerable to environmental aggressors and certain skincare products. This weakened defence invites acne-causing bacteria and triggers an overproduction of sebum, culminating in clogged pores and increased breakouts.
